Oleksandr Klymenko, whose candidacy for the position of the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office had earlier been determined by the competition committee, has been approved for the position, announced at Telegram channel On April 28, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.
“Today the head of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office was appointed. He is Oleksandr Klymenko, who was announced by the competition committee as the winner of the fair selection and was approved for the position by the new Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin immediately after his appointment,” Yermak wrote.
On April 19, the competition committee decided on the head of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. The committee submitted for consideration to the Prosecutor General a petition for the appointment of Oleksandr Klymenok as the head of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The same day, on 19 June, the Verkhovna Rada upheld President Volodymyr Zelensky’s motion to dismiss Iryna Venediktova from the post of Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
The need to appoint the head of the anti-corruption prosecutor’s office was a requirement of the EU, one of the requirements for Ukraine’s candidacy in the European Union.
According to the legislation, the candidate selected by the competition committee for the position of the head of the SAP, is submitted for review by the Prosecutor General.
On 27 April, the Verkhovna Rada approved the president’s petition for the appointment of Andriy Kostin as prosecutor general.
