MADRID (dpa-AFX) – With programs worth billions, Spain wants to become a superpower for green hydrogen by 2030. For the necessary construction of domestic pipelines and for the construction of two storage facilities, investments of 3.5 billion and almost 1.2 billion euros are planned, said the CEO of the Spanish gas network operator Enagás, Arturo Gonzalo Aizpiri, on Thursday at a hydrogen conference in Madrid. These projects should all be put out to tender in the coming months.
In addition, there is the construction of the undersea pipeline H2MED from Barcelona to Marseille, which is expected to cost around 2.5 billion euros and was one of the most important topics at the Spanish-French summit in Barcelona on Thursday. Portugal is to participate in this project. Hydrogen is called green when it is obtained from electrolysis using renewable energy.
