WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – In the United States, unemployment rose surprisingly in February. The unemployment rate rose to 3.6 percent, the US Department of Labor announced on Friday in Washington. The rate has thus moved somewhat away from its lowest level since May 1969, when it was last at 3.4 percent in January.
Analysts were surprised by the development. They had assumed that the rate would remain unchanged at the long-term low.
After the Corona crisis, the American labor market developed very robustly again. At times, however, the consequences of the pandemic led to a massive increase in unemployment and the rate had risen to over 14 percent in 2020./jkr/jsl/mis
