MAINZ (dpa-AFX) – Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) does not consider a debate about the future price development of the Germany ticket to be a priority. “Of course you have to evaluate the Germany ticket, that’s what we agreed on,” Wissing told the German Press Agency in Mainz on Friday. “But we shouldn’t take the third and fourth step before the first.” The federal states had recently demanded a fixed regular review of whether the price for the ticket had to be increased from initially 49 euros.
“Everyone should now focus on getting a smooth start,” emphasized Wissing. “And above all, that it will be advertised vigorously and that it will be a success.” He has nothing against discounts in federal states. “The decisive thing is that we don’t get a lot of different tickets,” said the minister. The Germany ticket should be the standard ticket for public transport in Germany.
Anyone who travels by car in the country should still have this option in order to be able to use different means of transport. “That means being able to spontaneously switch to public transport at any time if there is a cheap connection on the route.” You shouldn’t have to buy an extra ticket, but always be able to change with the Germany ticket, emphasized Wissing. “And all this effortlessly, without having to study tariff structures and, above all, without having to pull out your wallet.”
The nationwide public transport ticket for buses and trains should be valid from May 1st. A digitally bookable, monthly terminable subscription is planned. The offer should build on the 9-euro ticket from last summer. Officially, the sale should start on April 3rd, orders are already possible in some places./chs/irs/glb/wo/DP/he
